Another Maori war veteran has passed away in the person of Mr John Patrick Ward. The late Mr Ward had a chequered career during the Maori w.aV. He, with the late Mr M. O’Donnell (Hawera), was in charge of Te \ Whiti and Tolm during their detention in the South Island after they were arrested at Parihaka. Mr Ward wrote a history of the doings of his captives, which had a large circulation (states , the Tokaora correspondent of the Ha- * •• wera Star).
