Wellington, October 29. The Collector of Customs heid u preliminary inquiry concerning the mishap to the steamer Ruahine. The evidence adduced showed that the leak was due to the moat port door not fitting perfectly, and the packing apparently failing to withstand the weight oi water pressing inward. It is understood that the officials consider that no blame is attachable to anyone, and that further inquiry is unnecessary. Satisfactory progress is being made with the leconditiong of the cheese that got wet, and re-loading has started. It is expected that the vessel will be able to resume her voyage on Saturday morning.
