POLITICAL.
KOHURATAHI. (.From a Correspondent.) The Liberal candidate, Mr W. H. Hawkins opened the political campaign in the back country districts, of the Stratford electorate on Saturday evening last at Kohnratahi at 8 o’clock, there being a large and representative gathering of electors. Mr Sutton was voted to the chair. The candidate spoke for practically tv.o hours, and received a splendid hearing. He dealt with a wide range of questions. The speaker dealt with questions of revenue, expenditure, borrowing, general finance, hind, banking, and many other subjects. At the close of the address, which was evidently relished by the audience, a number of questions were asked and answ'ered. Two resolutions were carried absolutely unanimously and without protest of any kind. Ihc first, proposed by Mr W. O’Leary, and seconded by-Mr C. Cronin, "That this meeting has no confidence in the Massey Government,” and the second, proposed by Mr E. Jennings and seconded by Mr T. Spilman, ‘‘That tin;, meeting accords Mr Hawkins a hearty vote of thanks for his able and lucid address, and hopes he will top the poll, and also expresses entire confidence in the Liberal Party and n its loader, Sir Joseph Ward.” Both resolutions were carried amid applause. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded a most enjoyable and instructive meeting. t
