Official.—The enemy’s heavy artillery bombarded the front at Nieuport without result. The Allies, and particularly the Belgians, repulsed 1 the Germans, and renewed their attacks, advancing to Roulers. We progressed on the left between the Lys and Labasse, in the direction *of Lille, after stubborn fighting. At Labasse we advanced slightly. The Allies about Arras have been fighting without respite for ten days. They repulsed strong counter-attacks and gained ground at Chaulnes. There is nothing to report from the centre. On the right our advanced posts on the line from Bonhomine to Baires to Bulgeiu still hold their positions. Tho High Commissioner reports from London under date October 20 (1 p.m): Tho Allies gained ground and repulsed attacks and are now in the Chaulnes region. The Allies were fighting for ten days strenuously in the north and solith of Arras, holding firmly. Advances* are recorded on the La Basse, Ablair, and St. Nazaire fronts. Further progress was made on the left wing between Lys and La Basse canal in the direction of Lille. The Allies, particularly the Belgians, repulsed attacks and advanced to Roulters.
