N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.
The monthly meeting of the Taranaki Provincial Executive of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union was held at Hawera on Thursday, when there were present : —Messrs A. Hunter (president), R. Lambie, H. H. Buxton, J. S. Barrow, A. E. Washer, R. Dunn, F. Mills and J. Swindlehurst. ELECTIVE EXECUTIVE. The following remit, which was submitted to the Dominion conference by the Auckland Executive, was forwarded by the conference with the request that it be sent to the branches for consideration, viz:— “That the Dominion Conference be again asked to appoint a committee to consider and draft a scheme of Government by Elective Executive for this country, in order that the Farmers’ Union may be able to enter on an active campaign to bring this principle clearly before the electors of the Dominion.” Mr Maxwell moved and Mr Dunn seconded, “That while the executive, in compliance with the request of the Dominion Conference passes this remit on to the branches, it is unanimously opposed to the suggestion of an elective executive asgambodied in the remit from Auckland.” HUNTLY MINE DISASTER FUND. A telegram and letter were received from the Dominion president asking the Union to assist this fund. The secretary stated that he Had notified all branches of the president’s request, and some of them had subscribed. The sum of £9 10s was subscribed in the room, including £3 from the Te Roti branch. NATIONAL ENDOWMENTS ACT. The proposal made at the Dominion Conference to amend the above Act was considered, and it was resolved to send the proposal to the branches with the hearty approval of the executive.
