, (Received 9.0 a.m.) 4 London, October, 16. A German submarine sank the cruiser Hawke in the North Sea. Tifty-two survivors landed at Aberdeen. The submarine failed to ibit the Theseus. OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED. .ci: <u : • '• i * The Admiralty reports under date London, October 16th (Ip.m.); The warship Theseus was attacked by a submarine in northern waters in the North Sea yesterday afternoon, but was missed. The warship Hawke was attacked about the same time, and sunk. Four officers and 49 men were landed at Aberdeen by a trawler. The remaining officers and men are missing. The Hawke was a first-class protected cruiser of 7350 tons. She was armed with two 9.2-in. guns and ten 6-m. guns. lire Theseus is a sister ship to the Hawke, their station being Queenstown The complement of the Hawke would be about 500.
