LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The mounted section of the Defence Rifle Club paraded for drill this afternoon 1 , when there was the excellent muster of twenty-six. Some of those on parade had ridden up to thirty miles in order to be present.
Tbe body of a man discovered in the Wanganui river by a fisherman this morning is behoved to be Frank Jefferson, of Marton, aged between 11 and 43, which apparently had been in the water for three weeks.—P.A.
A Press Association telegram this afternoon from Gore says:—After a spell of fine weather heavy rain set in at eight o'clock this morning, 25 points falling in two hours. Shortly before ten o'clock snow began to fall and was unabated afc one o'clock. Over an inch has already fallen, which is the heaviest experienced for several years. The cold snap will be severe on young lambs.
Attention is drawn to a huge clearance sale of furniture, which W. S. Y. A. Sparwath, of Municipal Buildings, Stratford, has decided to hold, regardless of cost. Everything must absolutely be cleared to make room for-new stocks arriving for the Xmas season. There is £IOOO worth of stock to be simply thrown out. This opportunity should not be missed. x
