METHODIST CHURCH TEA AND SOCIAL.

A good number sat down m tin Regan Street Schoolroom last night to an excellent tea supplied by tht; ladies of the Methodist Church. Tht concert which followed was well worth} of the attention of the large audience which crowded the hall. The soloistf were:—Mrs Richards (song), Mr; E. W. Hancock (song), Miss Ransford (recitation—encored), Linyard (song), Lawn (cornet solo—encored); T. Belton (recitation—encored) The concerted items were excellent, and included the choruses "And the Glory of the Lord" (Messiah), "The Heavens are Telling" (Creation), an item rendered by Mi Kale and choir, and quartettes b\ Indies and gentlemen of the choir. The orchestra, which greatly added to the excellence of the concert, gave a solec cion. Among the items which call foi special comment was a trio by the ladies entitled "Noctune." This was beautifully rendered," the parts being well balanced, and the harmony*very swteet. The cornet solo, with violin, organ and piano accompaniment, by Mr C. Lawn was one of the gems of the evening. The programme terminated with a good rendering of the "Hallelujah Chorus." Great praise is due to Mr Law: who conducted the choir and orch'e'S tra. The chairman (Mr J. Masters). in the course of his remarks, thanked all those who had contributed to th< success of the tea and concert, which resolution was heartily carried b; those present. With the singing ot the National Anthem a very enjoyable evening's entertainment was brought to a close.
