THE ARMY GONTROL. HEAD OFFICERS SUSPENDED BY GERMANS. United Press Association. Rome, October \7. The Corriere della Sera (Evening Courier) confirms the statement that the Austrian army is entirely under the control of the German Staff. Notwithstanding Emperor Franz Josef's opposition, Herr von Hoetzendorff, Chief of the Austrian Staff, is practically deprived of pewer, under the pretext that he is unfit, owing to the death of his son. General Auffenburg has been removed from command, nominally owing to ill-health, but really because the move on Lublin was considered an enormous mistake. A message from Vienna states that the Archduke Josef Ferdinand has superseded General Auffenburg. There is popular indignation at Germany having left Austria unsupported for so long. IN HUNGARY. AUSTRIANS LOSE GUNS AND MANY PRISONERS. Petrograd, October 7. Russians defeated an Austrian detachment west of Sanok Pass, capturing guns and many prisoners. They also captured a train of artillfry near Munkace. (Munkacs is an old corporate * town 180 miles from Buda-Pest, wort of the Carpathians.
