NEWTON KING’S WEEKLY REPORT.
On Monday, 21st inst., at my Urenui yards, 1 had a small entry of store cattle and a good number of good quality springing heifers. The inquiry was good for alii classes, practically, everything being cleared;iGood.springing heifers were much in demaud at an advance in prices from last sale of from £1 10s to £2 per head, for the big heifers close up, but vendors must not expect much advance in price of the small 2 year olds, Small yearling heifers made from £1 to £1 15s, empty 20 months heifers £3 ,2s, 2 year steers £4 12s, small store cows £2 8s to £3, good store cows.£4 4s to £4 13s, for-ward-cows-. £5 10s to £6.4s 6d, cows and calves £4 I6s;t(i £sj dairy cows £0 ss, best 3 year springing heifers £7 2s Od to £8 10s, good heifers £5 15s to £o 10s, fair quality £4 10s tP £5 10s, small heifers and backward £2 10s to £4 7s ■ 6d, fat wethers, £1 4s 9d, weaner pigs 13s 6d, store pigs £1 4s. 6d to £1 13s 6d.
At Rahotu on Tuesday, 22nd inst., 1 had a small, entry, all of which was cleared at the following prices : Yearling heifers'£2 95,. small £1 2s 6d to £1 10s, rough yearling steers £1 14s, empty 20 month heifers £3 3s 6d to £3 7s, cows calves £4 6s, forward cows £5 ss, to £6, store cows £3 16s to £4 18s, bulls £5 ss, choice springing heifers £7 17s 6d to £8 ss, good £5 12s 6d to £7, 2 year old heifers £3 10s to £5 7s 6d, hogegts 14s 6d. At Stratford on Tuesday, for my weekly springing heifer sale, I had a good entry of springers and a representative attendance of buyers. A choice springing heifer fnade £ll, others (best) made from £6 to £7 10s, good heifers £5 10s and £5 los, smaller sorts. £3 10s to £5. The 81 heifers sold, averaged. £5 15s 9d. Dairy cows made up to £9 ss. Private sales for the week.—Yearling bit on small side, £1 15s to £1 17fc 6d, yearling steers £3 2s 6d, rough £2 to £2 10s, rough 2 year steerft £4 to £4 10s, 2i t° 3 year bullocks £6 15s, store cows £4 to £4 15s, small £3, forward cows £5 10s to £6 3s, fate cows £6 10s to £B, small cows and calves £4, sprinigng heifers £7 10s to £4 15s, dairy cows £7, 3-year fat bullocks £11; pedigree 2 year Shorthorn hull 30gns., ewes and lambs £1 3s 6d to £1 6s, hoggets 15s 6d, fat wethers £1 7s 6d and £1 8s 6d, fat ewes £l, fat hoggets £l, empty ewes 12s 6d, 15 months empty heifers £2 15s.
MATTHEWS, CAM LIN AND CO’S REPORT. Matthews, Gamlin and Co. report a good yarding at their Inglewood yards fast Wednesday. Prices for all classes showed an increase on late rates, steers and forward cows being in very good demand. Prices as follows: Springing heifers, £4 to £5 ss ; good sorts, £6 10s to £7 15s; dairy cows, £5 5s to £6 15e.; store cows, £4 5s to>£s ss; fat do., £7 7s; light cows, £3 15s to £4; 2-year steers, £4 Is; yearling do, £3 Is to £3 10s (an extra good line); heifers, 32s 6d to 36s 6d; colored do, £2 Is to £2 6s; ewes and lambs, 21s 2d. On Monday last we held a horse fair in Ladbrook’s stables, and had a good entry, good milk-carters and plough horses being in good demand, and of which we sold a good number at the following prices:—Good milk carters, £l6 10s to £25; lighter sorts, £lO 10s to £ls; harness horses, £6 to £l7 10s; hacks, £4 to £8; weeds, £2 to £3. We also sold the draught stallion Donald McCormick to a local, client at a satisfactory figure.
