• The N.Zi Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows: On Tuesday, 22nd inst., wo hold our usual fortnightly sale w our Stratford yards, whea we had a fair yarding. There was good com: "tition, and nearly everything was sold with the exception of one small line, of yearling heifers and 2 Jersef yeiu> ling bulls. Yearling heifers were in better demand and sold at from 30s to 645; 2-year old heifers from 61s to 80s, store cows small 525,' medium 70s to 80s, good from 100 s to 114 s, yearling steers up to 66s 6d, old ewes lis, hoggets from 12s to 16s. In the dairy pens we had a fair entry of 36 "dairy cows and heifers. There was fair competition for anything showing quality, but small grown and poor conditioned cattle were neglected. 2-year old heifers 85s to 107 s 6d, 3-year old heifers 110 s to 1455, good oows.£B 10s to £l2 10s. On Tuesday, 22nd inst., we also held our-wool, skin, hide and tallow sale, the first. sale since the war broke out. We had a fair catalogue. There was a full attendance of buyers and while wool and sheep skins were much easier, also tallow, hides and calfskins sold well at advanced values. Crutchings showed a marked decline and most bale lots were passed. ,Crutchings in sacks sold at from 3Jd to 4d, fleece odd lines 4d. Sheepskins.—Damaged from lid to 3Jd per' lb, fair woolled pelts 3£d to 4id per lb, good hoggets' skins 4fd per lb, salted pelts 3s each. Hides.—Cowhides, farmers' lines, light weights 6}d to 6fd per lb, 301 b hides .7}d, dry 6Jd, cut and damaged old-, yearling hides 6*d to 6|d, fleshy and cut 6d, calfskins, cut and damaged 8d per lb, 51bs and over lOfd, 3?lbs lOd. ' Our next wool, skin and hide sale will be held 20th- October.
On Wednesday, 23rd inst., we held our usual monthly sale in our Te Wera yards, when we had a fair yarding of 92 head of cattle, most of which were sold at advanced rates. Yearling steers small 35s to 40s, 20month steers £4, 2-year old steers C-"> ss, dairy cows from £6 17s to £7 17s 6d, dairy heifers from £5 to £6 i7s ei-> i ■.. «•-:, . '
