A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
The fifth annual Show under the auspices of the above Association will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, December 2nd and 3rd. The executive for some time past have been working with the object of making this year’s show the best on record. They have revised tiro schedule, and have made several alterations which will prove of great benefit to exhibitors and also to the public generally. A number of special prizes have already been donated for various events, one in particular being a class for the best boy driver under 16 years of age. The Holstein-Friesian Association have this year donated their champion gold medals to the best purebred Holstein bull and best purebred Holstein cow. This should bo a big inducement to breeders of that class of cattle to compete. Besides the champion medals the Association’s prize of £3 3s will be given. Another special prize has been given for the best two-year-old heifer of any breed, to be milked and tested before the stewards on the second day of the Show. A special prize has also been donated for the best pen of two grade heifers from Ist July, 1913.
The dog section has been carefully considered by the committee appointed and they have enlarged a good deal on previous years, and have arranged affairs so as to ensure large entries. A number of special prizes have been allocated to various breeds. The N.Z. Kennel Club have generously allocated challenge classes for old English sheep dogs and English setters. As this section of the show is recognised as being the best and most up-to-date of its kind in Australasia, a large number of entries from outside' sources is assured. During the past few months a large increase in the-membership has taken place, over 100 being enrolled. This goes to show that the members are taking a very keen interest in their Association’s welfare. An endeavour is being made to have all trains coming from the north stopped at the Flint Road crossing on both days of the Show, and if the executive are successful in the matter it should ot much appreciated by visitors coming from the north.
The various sections of the schedule have been carefully revised by the different committees and approved by the Executive, and everything points to an exceptionally good show, irro spective of the European crisis. Appli cations for schedules are being receive*' daily from outside exhibitors, whicl clearly proves that tho, Stratford Show is one in which outside exhibitors take a great interest. It only remains for the farmers in the district to give every possible assistance to the committee and make a special effort this year t< exhibit their stock and help make the Stratford A. and P. Association the leading Show in the North Island.
