A HOUSE-BREAKING CASE.
WATCH STOLEN FROM TARIKi RESIDENT. At the Court this morning, before Messrs Joseph McCluggage and A, W. Reid, J.P’s., William Scarbroa, an Inlander, was charged that on September 3rd ho did break and enter by day A dwelling at Tariki and steal therefrom a watch valued at £l, the property of Christina M. Jakes.
Mrs Jakes gave evidence that »b 0 left her house at 11.30 a.in. The door* and windows were all locked. On returning at 3 o’clock she found that the back window had been forced ope*, with a pick. When she got inside she noticed the bedroom all upside down and found her watch missing.
Martha Kowalewski, who reside* with her parents, next door to Mr« Jakes, said that about noon she ww a man who looked something like accused coming from the direction of Mr» Jakes’.
Sergeant McNeely said he had interviewed accused at the mountain quarry, and accused admitted having committed the theft.
Accused pleaded guilty and wa* committed to the Supreme Court for
sentence
