FOOTBALL.
AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON. Auckland, September G. The representative Rugby football match between Wellington and Auckland teams was played on Saturday. The game, which ended in a draw—■ three points to each side—was not a good exhibition of football. The, Auckland system of sending on long passes standing still crumpled up under the pressure of Wellington’s dashing forwards, and the five-eighths, E. Ryan, scored an easy try for Wellington a few minutes after the gam© opened. Early in the second spell, Ross got the ball from a scrum and bluffed the Wellington defence, and McGregor scored. Either side with a little luck might have won. CANTERBURY SOUTHLAND Christchurch, September 6. The Rugby football match, Canterbury against Southland, was disappointing. The home team won by 31 points (five tries and two penalty goals and two goals from tries) to ten points (two goals from tries). JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE MATCH. Wellington, September 6. The Rugby junior representative match Wellington v. Wairarapa ended in a decisive victory for the home team by 26 points to 8.
