The North Sea Act.
“A SKILFULLY-HANDLED OPERATION.” NAMES OF THE LEADERS. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] i [United Press Association.] (Received 1.30 p.m.) * London, August 28. The Press Bureau states that strong forces of British destroyers, supported by light cruisers and battle cruisers, attacked the German destroyers and cruisers guarding the approaches to the Gorman coast, two German cruisers and two German destroyers being sunk and many damaged. The battle cruiser squadron, although attacked by submarines and floating mines, successfully evaded them and is undamaged. The light cruiser squadron suffered no casualties. The cruiser Amethyst and the destroyer Laertes are damaged, but no other vessels are seriously injured. The British loss of life was not heavy.
The commanding officers responsible for this skilfully-handled operation v. T ero Rear-Admiral David Beatty, C. 8., Rear-Admiral Archibald Moore, C.V.0., and Rear-Admiral Arthur Christian, M.V.0., and Commodores Keys, Tyrwhitt and Goodenough.
