THE GENERAL ELECTIONS.
POSTPONEMENT URGED. [Pkr Prbbb AefooiATioH.) Wellington, August 25. The Nf".v Zealand Moderate League has decided to present a petition to Parliament praying for a postponement of the general elections, with the object of preventing internal political strife and bitterness. The petition sets forth: (1) That we are fully qualified electors of New Zealand, enrolled 01 entitled to be enrolled on the several electoral rolls of the Dominion; (2) That the British Empire is engaged in a war of unprecedented magnitude, i;p-;n the result of which the happiness and pro.;p:::ity of this country wholly depends; (3) That the whole attention of the electors of this country is and should be directed to assisting the Mother Country in this time of national danger; (4) That while great issues of the Empire are at stake, we as electors cannot give adequate attention to fclie internal politics of the Dominion; (5) That the stirring up of political strife, and the dividing of parties always inseparable from . party organisation, would be deplorable at the present juncture.
