Captain Hardham, V.C., of Petona, is a member of the Expeditionary Force. Mr Hayhurst, a sou of the late Colonel Hayhurst, has consented to stand in the Reform interests for Temuka if the League approves this selection.
Sergt. W. R. Foley, of Strathmore, lias been informed from headquarters that he has successfully passed his examination for the rank of Lieutenant in the 2nd Mounted Rifles. Mr George Woolnough, editor of the Brisbane "Telegraph," last week attained his 80th birthday. Mr Woolnough is the oldest active editor in Australia, and his vigor 6hows HO signs of waning. The death occurred last evening afc Dunedin of the Right Rev. Monsignor O'Beilly, aged 72 years. He was a well-known pioneer of the Roman Catholic Church in New Zealand, and was for 22 years parish priest at Thames. The exact whereabouts of Archbishop Redwood and Dean Regnault, at present abroad, is unknown, despite the fact that several cables have sent to likely places, inquiring about them. No news whatever has been received of them, and it is thought that they must have been in the.vicinity of Belgium when war broke out.
