Inquiries made ill Auckland from wholesale meat firms elicited the information that no rise in prices is contemplated while the stock market remains at present level.
All arrangements are well in hand for the annual ball under the auspices of the East Road Sheep Dog Trial Club which is to be held in the Te Wera Hall on Friday evening. There was a fair atetndance at the United Friendly Societies' euchre party last night, the prizes being won by Mrs Moroney and Mr F. Foley. Light refreshments were provided. Mr J. B. Richards, secretary of the Executive of the Patriotic Fund, notifies that horses suitable for remounts will be purchased at Stratford to-mor-row (Thursday), at 10 a.m. Particulars of the stamp of horse required appear in another column. The position in regard to unemployment in Auckland shows a tendency to improve, and a number of married men are employed for three days per week on improvement works in the Domain (states the Press Association). The building trade has not been so greatly affected by the war as was feared a few days ago, and this means that men engaged in building operations and allied trades are for the most part retaining employment.
