AMUSEMENTS.

BERNARD'S PICTURES. To-night's new programme ; is of great variety and includes a fine picture of sports in Switzerland. The latest Warwick Chronicle shows the mobilising of the British and French Army and Navy. There are also Caumont's latest dramatic hit, "The Ter-

tble Alternative," Lubin's comic, "A v'atersoaked Hero," and Vitagraph's 'reach drama, "Hearts Ease," which tins as follows :—A beauty-loving

French girl marries a wealthy English-! man, but in her new life finds herself misunderstood. Cyril is more interest, ed in hunting and riding than flowers or beauty. The sternness of his hpm« chills her. To remind herself of hei childhood home in Southern France, she sends for a box of "Heartsetse," and plants them in a bed directly beneath her window. Ten years elapse. Marie is the mother of two sons; the elder a conventional English boy—the younger, reflecting the nature of his mother. Cyril considers the young boy a milksop, and devotes himself entirely to the elder. Marie dies, and upon her breast the younger boy tremblingly places a little bunch of "Heartsease." The dearest possession he now has is

her portrait. A terrific storm breaks over the estate, the hoiise catches fire, and flames leap from its groat win-

dows. The father rescues both boys. The younger son fights his way back to get the portrait of his mother. Ho gains the open air with the portrait, but falls faco downward upon the bed of Heartsease" and dies from tho effects of the stroke. Too late, his father realises the pathos and bravery of the boy's life.
