A young man,'David Cody, resident at Heddon Bush, was admitted to the hospital yesterday suffering from a wound in one of his hands, caused by a rifle ball. The circumstances under which the wound was inflicted are sensational, He is said to have, been courting the daughter of a neighbouring farmer, but affairs were not viewed with favor by the parent of the girl. Their interchange of love messages was chiefly by letters left by Cody in a secret repository near the girl’s home. The other night Cody made his way to the depository. Wbo» a few yards from the spot he wished to reach, he was challenged by someone hidden by the darkness. He took no notice, and a moment afterwards ho heard the click of what he took to he a rifle. He continued on his way, and had gone some little distance when a report rang out, and he was Struck by a bullet. It is understood that the bullet struck the main bone in his hand, and that it was only removed with considerable difficulty. Another .young man, brother of the girl with whom Cody was corresponding, has been arrested.
