CARNIVAL QUEEN CONTEST
A pleasant time was spent last night in the Foresters' Hall by those who attended,the social given by the Friendly Societies in favor of their candidate, Miss Cramer, Red, White and Blue. Songs were sung by Misses Melville and I.Sole ;> and Master Barry, and "God Defend New Zealand" was given as a quartette by Misses, Black and Wolfe and Messrs A. Gorton and F. Cramer,;.,, Musie,-- for the . danca f was supplied by*. Mrs Bianchi (piano"') and Mr, Parker (cornet). rMiss, C/amer played extras and also played the accompaniments. Messrs T. Lawson and J. Jones acted as M.C's. The "weekly dance is to be held in the fire station this evening in aid of the. Fire Brigade's candidate, Mrs\ G. Smith, Royal Blue and White, ' : ,'_ The attention of our readers is called to a notice in our columns regarding the social and dance to be held in the Town Hall on Thursday, the proceeds of which, owing to the generosity of the sports candidate,. Miss Minnie Hignett, will be devoted to the general war fund. A social, with coffee and salad supper, will be given in the fire station on Thursday evening by Mesdames Miscall and McQuay in aid of the candidature of Mrs G. Smith, Royal Blue and White.
