AMUSEMENTS.

BERNARD’S PICTURES. i The new programme of pictures to be screened to-night includes the drama “Leah Klislina.” This special picture introduces the life story of a .Russian thief and his daughter, who is also a thief. “Mabel’s Strange Predicament,” is the top notch comedy, and is played by the original Keystone Co. Scenes in Venice are excellent, and a local film, “Around jOamaru,” is one that will shew the beauties of New Zealand compared to foreign countries. “Caught Courting,” is an extremely funny comedy by the Vitagraph players. When I Polly Orden reads a letter which her sister Agnes has just received from her friend, Mrs Trout, asking her to send a good country girl to take charge of the “kiddies” she thinks it would be a great lark to go as the nurse. When Polly arrives she is met at the station by Lieut. Cross who becomes infatuated with the pretty stranger. The Lieut, forms a plot with Sergeant Doolan, whereby Doolan will warn him over the ’phone when the Trouts return. How the plot fails can best be learned by seeing the picture. “THE ROSARY.' 1 Lots of people have been talking about “The Rosary” as (hough it wore a religious play. It is not, and there is plenty of good comedy right through it. Of course it is like the book, “Father Kelly of the Rosary” for the simple reason that the book was written on : Jio play not as is usually the case when the play is a dramatisation of the boot. It is a pretty story of home life and the skeleton that crept in and made trouble in the happy home, which for the time becomes desolated. Afterwards everything is made fight and happy through the good offices of Father Kelly, who is a friend of everybody and always turns up when, ever anyone is in trouble. Not on'y this, but he has the happy knack and facility of purpose to' cause nirr. to render assistance and good advi >e to all, no matter whether it be the heroine, ,tho hero, or a burglar, one of whom he catches robbing himself but instead of handing him over to the police lie gives him some money, gets him work, and makes an t; nest man of him. The comedy rignt through! the piece is more than humorous, and is very entertaining. P will be. played on Wednesday evening next, the 12th, at the Town Hall Stratford, and the box plan is at Grubb’s. No extra charge is made for booking.
