The Stratford Evening Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER FRIDAY, AUGUST 7, 1914. A WORLD AT WAR.

With almost startling rapidity t] ie war flame continues to spread Vlirough. out the world, and almost ertiy European country is engaged. Germany, with utter recklessness, puffed 'up with pride as the self-styled j “world’s mightiest nation,” continues to set treaties and undertakings at naught, to convert neutrals to active I enemies, and to behave with incomprehensible recklessness and folly, in ! many parts of the world acts of war are taking place, and every JJritisn community is on guard against active aggression while making preparatio is to support the Mother Country ;n the fearful struggle upon which she ha.> mitered. So far, the comparatively minor collisions and casualties which are reported seem to have boon against the Germans, and the indications 're that both French and British navies are wide awake to the situation. Very i general satisfactioin will be felt at the fact that Lord Kitchener has boon j appointed Minister for War, with General Sir lan Hamilton as Commander of the Home Army. General Hamilton was, it seems but yesterday. a visitor to tin's Dominion, and those who come in contact with him on his visit of inspection were greatly impressed with the distinguish- 1 ed soldier. In New Zealand, at any rate, wc shall feel in personal tench with the Commander of the Home Army. From every part of King' George’s Dominions there comes the most splendid support of the Mother-' land’s action, and high and low are standing ready to give of their best. The King’s own son, Prince Albert, serves as a midshipman with North Sea Fleet. /
