THE AUCKLAND CUP, £2650. [Pib Peebb Association. J Auckland, July 31. The committee appointed to draw up the programme for the meetings proposed to be held at Ellerslie under the auspices of the Auckland Racing Club during the coming season has completed its labors. As a result of its deliberations the prize money for the season's racing has been increased by £6260, bringing the total sum for competition to £42,000. There are many marked alterations, the most notable being in connection with the Auckland Cup, the value of which has been raised from £2150 to £2650, including a cup valued at £l5O, so that it has now become the leading sporting event in the Dominion. In nearly every instance the minor events have been built up, ad there is now no flat race in the club's programme of a" less value than £2OO, and many of them are
above this standard, while the smallest stake offered is £l5O. Noteworthy features of the winter meeting programme is that both the Great Northern Hurdle Race and the Great Northern Steeplechase have been raised from £IOOO to £1250 each. A pleasing feature of the summer programme is that the stake for the Auckland Plate has been increased from £SOO to £6OO.
At the annual meeting of the Feilding Jockey Club last night (states the Press Association), Mr E. Short offered a 100-guinea gold cup for the Steep, lechase event at the next Easter meeting for all hunters qualified this year. The offer was accepted.
