BOXING. IPbe Pees* Association.] Wanganui, July 22. The New Zealand amateur boxing championships commenced to-night with the following results: — Welters.—L. Mills (Taranaki) beat N. Bond (Wanganui), on points; Hunter (Wellington), knocked out F. England (Hawke’s Bay) in the first round; Kelland (Taumarunui), beat J. Sloan (Christchurch) on points, after a slashing bout. Heavy-weight—C. Savory knocked out Havill (Timaru) in the first round ; iggieldeu (Wairarapa) boat W. Green (Ma nawatu) on points. Middle-weight—W. Dickson (Taumarunui) beat H. Morton (Hawke’s Bay),, after a slashing contest, on points; A. "Wood (Southland) beat B. Finnic (Wellington) uu points. Feather-weights—J. Newsome (Taumarunui) lieat C. Chi,stum (Christchurch) on points;,,A. Goodman (Otago, heat Benson (Gisborne) on points, after a hard contest. Bantam.—A. C. Venus (Wanganui), beat Gilchrist (Auckland); H. Gunn (Timaru) heat Andrews (Wellington) on a foul in the last round. Light-weight—W. Brown (Hawke’s Bay) v. Geo . Thomas (Wanganui). Thomas won on points, the referee stopping the fight in the last round. J. Stewart (Timaru) heat R. Leckio (Otago) on points. SCULLING. Wanganui, July 22. J. Hannan has challenged W. Webb to row for the championship of New Zealand and £IOO a-side. HOCKEY. Hamilton, July 22. For the fourth time this season Waikato to-day successfully defended the Nordon Cup, this time against Wairarapa, at Hamilton. The ground was muddy. The superior combination, of the home team resulted in’ a win for Waikato by four goals to one. Wellington. July 22. At the meeting of the New Zealand Ladies’ Hockey Association’s tour committee to-night, Mr A. W. Manning was appointed the association’s representative to travel with the English ladies’ tonring team in New Zealand. Ho is also to act as solo selector of the Now Zealand teams to play against the visitors,
