SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Committee m< it last night, when there were present Messrs P. Skoglund (chairman),: W. McDonald, H. Sanderson, T. Lawson, K. M. Hancock, 0. Smart, F. A. Cramer, E. Jackson am! J. W, McMillan. It was decided to increase the caretaker’s salary by £25 per annum. The Headmaster reported that everything was going satisfactorily. The Board’s Overseer will attend to the chimneys at the school, and at the same time will erect a small bicycle shed near the shelter shed. A request by the School Committees’ Association that the Committee join the Association was referred to the chairman, secretary, and Mr McMillan to report to next meeting. Mr McDonald, on behalf of the Visiting Committee, reported that everything appeared to be going well at the school. Messrs Smart and Sanderson will act as Visiting Committee during the coming month. The Chairman reported that it would

rat be necessary' for the Committee to do the work of draining the southwest corner of the playground—the Board’s carpenter would he in Stratford during next week and would attend to the work.

The Board’s Inspectors reported that the regularity of attendance and punctuality had been good. During 1913 eleven pupils gained firstclass certificates for regular attendance, and thirty-four pupils secondclass certificates. • All departments were satisfactory'. The following marks were awarded for the beautifying of the school grounds and upkeep of premises (the maximum marks being given in parentheses):—Beautifying of grounds 30 (40), tidiness of grounds 9 HO), condition of outhouses, etc. 9 (10), condition of fences 9 (10), general appearance of rooms 9 (10) condition of apparatus, etc., S (10) special effort 5 (10).
