NEWTON KING’S WEEKLY REPORT. On Friday, 10th inst., at ray Kaponga yards, I had a good entry of oattle, all classes meeting with good competition and selling at the following prices:—Yearling heifers (good) .01 15s to £2 9s Gd, smaller 01 2s to £1 12s Gd, yearling steers £2 2s to £2 10s, empty 20 months heifers £0 Is to £3 7s, springing heifers £5 12s 6d, fat cows £G 18s to £6. forward cows £5 15s to £4 15s, store cows £4 Ss to £2 3s. , On the same day at Xornianby, in j conjunction with the Loan Co., Ha-1 wera, 1 conducted Mr E. J. Linn’s sale. There was a good attendance, with brisk bidding. The cows were a very choice lot and in splendid condition. the herd of 82 grade (Jersey cows averaging £l4 3s Gd. The top price for the day, £3l, was paid for a Jersey cow. At Urenui on Monday, 13th, I had a full yarding of all classes of cattle, with several lines of sheep. The attendance was good, with inquiry for all lines, consequently nearly every line was sold at the hammer. The in call heifers advertised on account of M i W. Girdling were all cleared as follows; Springing heifers £5 17s Gd Jersey 2 year in calf heifers fbit small) £5 2s, Ayrshire in calf 2 year heifers £5 10s, 2 and 24 year Shorthorn heifers (rough) £5 ss, empty 18 month:;’ heifers £3 ss, forward empty heifer: £5. The dairy cows entered on ar count of Mr L. E. Coster, were a ver\ fair line, selling up to £l7 for a very "hoice cow, down to £5 for empty looking cows, the line averaging £9 7s 6d. On accbunt of other vendors: Yearling steers £1 19s to £3 Is Gd, rough 2 to 2$ year steers £4 3s to C 5 ss, small empty heifers £3 2s, forward cows £5 3s to £5 12s, store cows £4 to £4 7s, 2 and 2J year in calf aeifers: (badly done) £4 15s, springing heifers £6 to £G 17s 6d, dairy cows £G o £B, aged guaranteed cows £3 12s Gd to £5, fat heifers £6 Gs to £6 18s, aged ewes in lamb 13s 3d and 13s Gd, aged
others in poor condition 14s 2d, hog;efcs 14s 6d to 15s 3d for fair lines.
On, the same day at Tuna, for Mr I, Tristram’s clearing sale I had a fair attendance, the herd of 24 cows making a satisfactory average of £8 18s. Host cows, young and showing quality, sold up to £l3 10s, others £5 to £7 os, cows £5, yearling hulls £4, heifers calved £B.
.it Iliverlca on Tuesday, 14th inst., for Mr J. Wallace’s sale, cows sold at from £6 5s to £lO, averaging £8 *s for the line. Heifers calved made from £6 to £8 10s, breeding sows £5 :.o £7 15s.
On the same day at Rahotn I had a full yarding of all classes of cattle There was a representative attendance of buyers from all parts, with brisk bidding for all lines offered, tin whole yarding, with very few exceptions, being cleared at the hammer. The demand was best for good yearling steers, big yearling heifers, and empty 20 months heifers. Prices obtained were:—Shorthorn yearling heifers (only fair stuff) £2 Is Gd to £1 18s, smaller £1 14s to £1 ss, mixed colored wcauers to yearling heifers £2 Is Gd and £1 18s, wearier I*to 1 *to yearling steers (mostly rough lines) very satisfactory sales at £2 17s to £1 IGs Gd, small and weedy £1 7s Gd to £1 ss, brindle 20 month steers £3 Is, empty 20 month heifers £3 15s to £3 6s, 15 months Shorthorn hulls £3 11s to £5, 15 months Holstein bulls £4 Bs, weaner Jersey bulls £2, 24 year steers £5 12s, springing heifers (improved enquiry for anything close up) £G 7s Gd to £5 12s Gd, fat cows £6 17s, small fat cows £G, store and forward cows £5 to £3 11s, aged cows £2 17s to Cl 18s. good framed cows in calf, guaranteed, £4 19s.
On Wednesday, 15th inst., at 31.d----hirst, Mr W. Neilsen’s dairy herd sold at from £8 10s to £l4 15s, aged cows £5 5s to £7, averaging £ll 5s for the line. Jersey hulls brought £B ss, wcauer heifers £2 7s 6d, springing heifers £7 ss. On account o( : Mr W. Moles, dairy cows sold* at from £0 5s to £9 15s. At the Stony River yards on the same day, the line of dairy cows sold on account of, Mr Raniera averaged £7 10s. ■ At Warea on Thursday, 16th, at 3!> Percy Putt’s clearing sale, there was a fair attendance of buyers, with good competition for all cows offered as follows :—Best young cows, showing a lot of Ayrshire quality from £9 5s to £l2 ss, others, backward £6 to £S ss. The herd of 50 (notwithstanding that 25 were September to November calvers) making a very satisfactory average of £8 15s, pedigree Ayrshire bull lOgns, Ayrshire in calf heifers £1 17s fid to £G ss, empty cows £3 13s (id to £4. 7s, 3 year colt by Genera! Grant £l7 ss. On the same day at Stratford, at Mr C. J. D. Wickham’s sale, there were only a few dairy cows to offer, these selling at £l7 to £ll, pedigree Jersey bull 2Sgns. On the same day at Ghislehurst, PT tbam. for 31 r J. Phillip’s, senr.. pedigree Jersey sale, 1 bad a very representative attendance, prominent Jersey breeders being present from all parst of the N. Island. The rows and heifers were a nice lot and met with good competition. The young bulls and heifers wore looking rough, tin’s affecting prices for these a little, hut nevertheless a very satisfactory sale resulted. prices obtained being as follows; Pedigree cows 15 to -IBgns, pedigree 2 year heifers 20 to 37gns, pedigree weaner to yearling heifers 5 to logns, pedigree hulls 9 to 12gns.
