The death ’Sf W. Piquenill, the well known artist, is announced by cablegram from Sydney.
( Mr A. J. Ching, of the Magistrate's Court, Napier, has been appointed to succeed Mr Pipe, Clerk of the Eltham Court, who retires at the end of the month. Mr Ching takes up his duties on Ist August.
Mr S. R. Kennedy of the famous Kennedys, who are to appear in Stratford on Wednesday, July 29th, was in Stratford to-day making final arrangements for the appearance of the company. The combination is spoken of as one of the most artistic that has ever visited Now Zealand.
Mr P. D. McCord, who has for some time been teller at the Union Bank of Australia, New Plymouth, has received notice of transfer to the Melbourne office, and leaves on Wednesday to take up his new duties. Mr Vaughan, of Stratford, succeeds Mr McCord.
Mr G. A. Holder, who up to the present has been secretary to the Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation of Now Zealand, has been appointed manager, and will in future hold the dual position of manager and secretary.
The funeral of the late Maori Takarangi Mete Kingi took place yesterday afternoon at Wanganui. The deceased' was buried with military honors. About five thousand people were present, including leading natives from all parts of the North Island.
Mr 0. de W. Vaughan, accountant at the Union Bank of Australia’s Stratford branch, who has received notice of transfer and leaves for his new quarters this evening, was entertained by members of the Stratford Club on Saturday evening, and presented with a token of their esteem.
Dr. T. H. A. Valintine who recently underwent an operation, has been granted six months’ leave of absence, and, acting on medical advice, left by the lonic on Thursday on a trip to the Old Country. The Hon, R. Heaton Rhodes,' Minister for Public Health, has announced that during Dr. Valintine’s absence, tbe deputy Chief Health Officer, Dr. Frengley, will act as Chief Health Officer and Inspector-General of Hospitals.
Many friends in this district will regret to learn of the death of Mr R. 0. Templer, schoolmaster at Tarata, which was reported on Saturday. Mr Templer, who had been two or three years in charge of the Tarata school, spent six weeks in the New Plymouth Hospital recently, where he underwent an operation on his foot. He was to have resumed school work to-day (states the News.) Mr Templer was some years ago secretary to the Stratford Farmers’ Association and the Midhirst Dairy Company, and was a prominent mom©r of the Teachers I’nstitute.Tho interment will take place at the Hawera cemetery to-morrow (Tuesday). Mr ■N. R. Templer, of Stratford, is a son of the late Mr R. C. Templer.
