Wanted a Motto.
HELL MUCH LIKE LONDON. “SWEET THAMES, RUN SOFTLYI" [By Electric Telegraph— Copyright] Times and Sydney Sun Services. Loudon,, July 16. The London County Council is divided in its choice of a motto for the City. A section is desirous of having a Latin one, while others favor English for the reason that it will he readable hy the man in the street. Mr G. Bernard Shaw, the playwright and novelist, suggests: “Hell is a city much like London!” He considers this will he the most apt until the Council carries out its duties. The Times, in a leader, suggests as the motto: “Sweet Thames run softly!”•
