STRATFORD V. KAPONCA. It was expected that the match between Stratford and Kaponga, played on Victoria Park yesterday afternoon, would result in a close game, but Kaponga won rather easily by six goals to nil. The home team was playing a long way below usual form and never looked like winning after the first quarter of an hour. The Stratford men showed some good individual play, but at the business end of a rush the visitors were much superior. For the visitors the scorers were:—McCarthy (3), Hill, Wehbey, and Black. Mr Hill acted as referee. ' For some time after the bully-off Stratford kept the visitors up to their own end of the field, play frequently hanging about the scoring circle. However, Kaponga got to the home goal on a few occasions, and on one of these their first try was scored. Thereafter the tables were turned and the home goal was invaded for a good time,, play hovering dangerously near the not. From tight play in a handy position Kaponga scored again. Stratford worked hard to shift the scene of play, hut the visitors were too persistent and once more fount! the net with a hot hit that a goalkeeper could be excused for missing. Kaponga kept up the pressure and were shaping well for another goal when relief came in the shape of a free hit to Stratford. The hall was sent well up the field, hut was almost immediately returned by a series of good passes and once more got past the goalkeeper. In the second spell Kaponga scored soon after the start, and thereafter Stratford was kept busy defending for quite a long time. Getting towards the end of the game Stratford livened up and on two occasions looked likely to score, hut they were unable to break their “duck.” Kaponga scored their sixth goal a few minutes before the game ended, play being in their favor when time was called.
