MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE.
OPENED THIS MORNING. fpEii Pueps Association.] Wellington, July 14. The thirteenth biennial conference a the Municipal Association was open'd in the Town Hall this morning, Mr i. P. Luke presiding over nearly 100 delegates. '['he Governor (Lord Liverpool) opened the conference. His Excellency heartily commended town-planning, though lie pointed out the difficulties arising from the fickle development of the town’s manifesto by fashion in preferred localities, and also praised Die general ideal of making towns beautiful throughout Xew Zealand. His Excellency referred to Arbor Day, ■.-lying that tree-planting was highly lesirahle both from a scenic and necessitous point of view. Such work was me of his hobbies. The delegates will he entertained at • nncheon to-day by the Wellington ’ ity Council and at afternoon tea by Hie Governor at Government House. 'i'lie Wellington Racing Chib have invited the delegates to attend the races: to-morrow. There is a very heavy Order Paper, including about 150 remits.
