CARNIVAL QUEEN CONTEST

SELECTING THE CANDIDATES. Matters are moving along splendidly in connection with the Carnival Queen contest, and the different committees are showing signs of enthusiasm, which spells success to the undertaking. The Stratford Horticultural Society held a very enthusiastic meeting last night in connection with the nomination of a Carnival Queen candidate. The meeting was unanimous in its choice of Miss L. Hart, and decided to .begin work immediately. Mr H. Masters was appointed chairman, and Mr I). Cameron and Mr A. Spillman as joint secretaries. All friends of Miss Hart are invited to join the committee and assist her candidature. The United Friendly Society delegates meet to-night in the Council Chambers at 8 o’clock to make their final choice of a candidate for the contest. It is understood that they will have a very strong band of workers on the committee. The Fire Brigade, Post office, and Railway staffs meet at the Fire Brigade station at 7.30 sharp on Wednesday night to form a general committee and arrange a working programme to boost their candidate. Anyone wishing to assist this committee will ho welcomed at the meeting.
