BERNARD'S PICTURES. "LAST DAYS OF POMPEII." Those who love, history, even of the sad times of the early suffering Christians, should not fail to attend at His Majesty's Theatre this evening. There is something inexpressibly grand about the "Last Days of Pompeii" that, appeals like no other picture can. The mere thought of the awful experiences of the inhabitants of the old Roman town when Vesuvius belched forth fire and lava, and the earthquake left great rents, means a shudder or series of shudders to the the average reader. Still, the presentation of the scene as depicted by the cinematograph tones down the incident to such an extent and weaves into it such an element of romance that the tragedy of the time is not so realistically felt, even, as in the reading of the book. "The hour is come!" cried Clinthus, who was surrounded by his Christian friends. That was a terrible experience, surely, but look to the bright side of the film. Picture the beauty of the. following:—The next morning, Glancus and lone, guided by Xydia, the blind girl, sought the shore. lone slept on the breast of Glaucus, and Nydia lay at their feet. In the silence of general sleep, Xydia bent over Glaucus and kissed his brow, and with her hair wiped from it the ocean damp. "May God bless you. Athenian," she said. "May you be happy with your loved one; may you sometimes remember, Nydia. Alas! She is no further use on earth." With these words she turned away. A sailor, half dozing on the deck, heard a splash, and imagined he saw a form above .the waves, but it vanished in an instant.
