RIGHTS OF A BONDSMAN.
PECULIAR BANKRUPTCY CASE. -An extraordinary case -came before the Bankruptcy Court at Perth iasfc month, when a railway fitter named Downing asked to be relieved from tho claim oi' his only creditor, the Mutual Lite and Citizens' Assurance Company, under -the fidelity bond given tor one VY'eekes, an agent of the company. Downing's case was that lie thought he was merely guaranteeing 'Weekes' honesty., whereas under the terms of his bond the company was able'to secure a verdict against him for
thirteen times the amount of the weekly contributions which Weekes, as agent, had failed to collect." The official receiver said that the agreement was the most extraordinary lever seen, and was an abuse of the rights of the bondsman. The inquiry was adjourned.
