REQUEST FUK UKUISERS. "NOT FILL THE HIATUS." ("By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Presb Association. 1 (Received 10.2 a.m.) Loudon, July 6. The Pall Mall Gazette's naval correspondent, in discussing New Zealand's request for two cruisers of the Bristol class, says: "They will be hardly less futile than the ships already in New Zealand waters. Zealous though Australia and Xcw Zealand are in naval affairs, they hardly seem to grasp the first principles whereupon the distribution of the Fleet is grounded. It would be useless to pit Bristol cruisers against battleships and armoured cruisers. New Zealandcrs, having given the Xew Zealand, have the right to be annoyed at the non-fulfil-mont of the Admiralty's promise that three battle cruisers should be maintained on the station, but the despatch of Bristol cruisers could not fill the hiatus."
