The Rugby Union selectors have chosen the following forwards to play against the New Zealand team: — Watson, Prentice, H. Geo'-ge, E. Fahey, C. Wallach, J. Duffy, F. Thompson, H. Baker; average weight, 13st 31bs. REFEREES ON STRIKE. [Per Prebb Association. 1 Wellington, July 6. Friction between referees and the Wellington Rugby Union has reached an acute stage. Tho, Union committee- has refused to accede to their demands, and as a result a notice to old players, supporters and referees has been advertised by the Rugby Union, inviting those willing to assist to communicate with the officers of the Union. It is understood that some members of the Referees' Association are not in favor of going on strike, and that these will continue to act under the Union.

SOUTH TARANAKI MATCHES. In the senior contest, Waimate defeated Hawera by 21 points to 3; Kaponga won by default from Okaiawa. In the junior division, Kaponga defeated Okaiawa by 27 points to 0. In the third division, Waimate defeated Kaponga by 8 points to 3. THIS WEEK'S REFEREES. The following are the referees appointed for this week's matches :- Thursday.—First juniors : Star v. Stratford, at Stratford, Mr Roch; Tukapa v. Inglewood, at New Plymouth, Mr Roberts; Clifton v. Now Plymouth High School, at Waitara, Mr West. Second juniors: Star v. Stratford, at Stratford, Mr Johnson; Clifton v. Stratford D.H.S., at Stratford, Mr J. Thomas.

Saturday.—Star v. Tukapa, Star ground,, Mr Snell; Okato v. Inglcwood, at Okato, Mr Larson; Clifton v. Stratford, at Waitara, Mr Spurdle.
