The U.S.S. Company’s s.s. Kauri, stranded on the north beach at Westport on the 23rd of last mouth, was towed off about 5 o’clock last evening. Ernest Austin, third engineer of the steamer Makarini at Auckland, died in the hospital as the result of injuries caused through falling down the hold. —P.A. A Sydney cablegram states that at a further meeting of the Rugby League it was decided to play the final test at Sydney on Saturday. This will be the last appearance of the British team there, the England-New South Wales match being played at Melbourne on August 15th.
