WOMAN’S FALSE PRETENCE
PRISON BOARD METHODS CRITICISED. [Per Press Association. ] Christchurch, July 2. Nessie Carter, 20, a girl who was released from reformative treatment for theft after serving only part of her sentence, was before the Court again on charges of false pretences. The evidence showed that she had many adventures during the pall five weeks, duping boardinghouse keepers and shopkeepers by posing as the niece of several well-known residents. The Magistrate questioner! the method' adopted by the Prisons Board in releasing the girl, and sentenced her to three months’ imprisonment and one year’s reformative treatment.
