POLITICAL NOTES.
The Hon. James Allen, states that the Bible in schools referendum is not going to be made a party question. It is considered that the Referendum Bill has good prospects of being passed by the House.
Mr G. Hunter, member for Wai-pawa,-is re-introducing the Gaming Amendment Bill, proposing to increase the number of totalisator permits in any one year from 250, the present legal maximum, to 280, .the additional permits to be distributed in the proportion of seventeen to country racing clubs, ten to hunt clubs, and three to trotting clubs. In Wellington it is stated that the following list will contain some of the Government's chosen nominees for the Upper House:—Messrs C. B. Morison (Wellington), Graves Aickeo (Auckland), Gilbert Carson (Wanganui), W. H. Triggs (Christchurch). J. G. Wilson (Wellington), G. W. Leadley (Ashburton), J. R. Sinclair COtago), G. Fenwiek (Dunedin) and J. C. N. Origg (Ashburton). \
