Dietrich, a tamer’s assistant with a travelling circus, entered a cage containing six lions belonging to his fiancee, Adgie Castillo. One of the lions sprang at Dietrich, knocked him down, and the others attacked and partially devoured his body. A powerful disinfectant spray was utilised, and the attendants secured Dietrich’s remains. A DREADFUL SIGHT. TORN TO SHREDS BY FIVE LIONS. PANIC AMONG THE CROWD. (Received 12.30 p.m.) New York, June 23. Emerson D. Dietrich was a graduate of Cornell University. He was torn to shreds by five lions, whose cage he entered to feed them. The lions virtually ate him alive. Ten- lions were in a freight car. "While Dietrich was making a short fight, fpr life, five cubs endeavored to escape, causing a panic to crowds, but the keeper managed to return them to the cage.
