Mr Ernest Sackville-West, the unsuccessful cjaimant to the Sackville peerage and estates, committed suicide on hearing of his wife's death from cancer. The Sackville-Wests recently conducted a lodging-house at Monte Carlo. The deceased came to Paris in connection with the illness of his wife, who was suffering from cancer. The treatment did not avail, and he was distracted on seeing his wife's body. Then he walked to the next room, and shot himself with a revolver. Money troubles, were partially responsible for ihe deed. Deceased only possessed Bs. The above message revives memories of a celebrated lawsuit. In February pi 1910 Ernest Sackville-West filed a petition in the Probate Court for a leclaration of legitimacy. He was a son of. the late Lord Sackville and a Spanish dancer named Pepita Duraud, \nd if the petition had been successful le would have been declared-fche legitimate eldest son, and his claim to the sackville peerage would have ranked iefore that of Lionel Edward Sack-ville-West, who is now in possession ff the title and estates, petitioner's iuit having been dismissed.
