Thomas Mackenzie, High Commissioner for New Zealand, at Hull, on the occasion of the opening of the preliminary section of the new dock, stated that direct shipments to New Zealand involved a reduction in freight and rates, and that there was less risk of deterioration in cargoes. Mr Mackenzie, in the course of his remarks, referred to the increasing trade with New Zealand, and also to the shipping proprietaries of Germany making some tariff concessions to New Zealand as America had to do.
