CONTAGIOUS ABORTION.

The veterinary director-general of Canada has issued a special report of the investigations being carried out in England for the Board of Agriculture with respect to contagious abortion in cattle. The diagnosis of this disaster is now a matter of certainty, which makes it possible to plan better foi the control of the disease. It is now possible to immunise a heifer, so that subsequent infection has no effect on her. This is secured by injecting subcutaneously an emulsion of the living bacilli, two or three months before she is to be served. No injurious effect is produced on the heifer, and the progeny is normal in every respect.
