STATE FIRE INSURANCE.
NEW ZEALAND'S EXPERIENCE. [Br ELIOtEIO TEiiECiftAFH—^#TEIGHTj ttINITED PaKBB ASB OCI ATiqN .4 (Received 10.50 a.m.) Sydney, June 18. Dr." MoNab,. interviewed on the subject of Stat© Fire Insurance in New Zealand, says it met with immense opposition from the companies who pictured the usual disasters, but the State system is now fairly established, and he, does not think any Government will abolish it. Dr. McNab said he considered that in the Dominion it had served its main purpose, viz., to prevent the public being exploited by a monopoly which naturally exists when the insurance is in the hands of a few companies. If opposition to the office now exists, it is not prominent in the Dominion.
