A CHRISTIAN BROTHER'S DEATH.
At St. Vincent de Paul's Orphanage, conducted by the Christian .Brother*, at Cecil-street, South Melbourne on tlie morning of Sunday, Ist lilt,. Brother'Alphonsus, whosename before entering the order was Patrick O'Heare, committed suicide by opening the main arteries in his arm and leg. When breakfast was prepared, Brother Alphonsus did hot appear, and Brother M'Evoy, another member of the. order, was deputed to investigate the cause of his absence. When Brother M'Evoy readied Brother Alphonsus's room he found the door locked. When he knocked, he heard the occupant fall to the floor. . H . The door was forced open, and Brother Alphonsus was found with blood issuing)from his leg and wrist;- Adoctor was called in, but all efforts to save the brother were unavailing, and he died soon afterwards. Deceased, who was 57 years of age, had been despondent for some months past, consequent on a long period of illness. He. was one of the tutors connected with the orphanage, 'and was very popular, both with the scholars and the members of the order.
