The battle of Montana was the outcome of labour troubles. Unionists parading the streets were juttaeked the indnsrHal w ■ ■■■;; with wood, stones, and other missiles. The attackers stormed and wrecked the union hall, throwing furniture and pianos out of the windows. The mayor appealed for order, and the mob threw him from. a second-, storey window. A crowd of 10,000 watched the disturbance, which was only quelled when the rioters thought the troops wi •? coming.
