At Level Crossings.

"LOOK OUT FOR ENGINE!" NOTICE TO MOTORISTS. [Per Press Association.] Wellington, June 11. A circular letter has been sent to all local bodies by the Minister of Railways concerning the new regulations governing the speed at which motor cars must approach level crossings. These provide that persons driving motor cars shall, when approaching crossings, slacken speed when within one hundred yards of the crossing to a rate not exceeding ten miles an haur, and shall stop before coming into contact with the railway line. A vigilant look-out must be kept by motorists, who shall not attempt to cross unless the line is clear.

The Department will supply distinctive warning boards if required, but it has no obligation to erect them.
