LIQUOR IN KING COUNTRY
CONFERENCE AT TE KUITI.

A conference of tlie local bodies in the King Country to consider liquor laws was held at To Kuiti. Mr J. Ormsby (Otorohanga)’ was chairman, and other delegates were: Messrs E. Martin (Te Kuiti), Allanson (Kaitieke), Wilkie (Ohakune), Berry (Wfeitomo), Boddy (Awakino), Sandison (Ohura), and Short (Taumarumii).* The Chairman referred to the fact of having been connected with the placing of restrictions on the district. The conditions had changed. The restrictions did not restrict, as had been fondly hoped by the Maoris. They had to deal with conditions which had arisen. Europeans now outnumbered the Maoris ten to oiib or more, and had a right to he heard.
A motion was carried—“ That this tnefethl'jl, “ representing various' local bodies of the Rohe Potao, unanimously resolve that the restriction proclamation made by section 272 of the Licensing Act, 1910, be annulled.”
Another motion in favor of municipal control of the sale of 'liquor in the district was carried, also that, a deputation wait on the Prime Minister on the occasion of his visit to Te Kuiti on June IS; also that a deputation wait on the Minister and Parliament : during the forthcoming session.
