Berlin, May 26
Prince Oscar, the Kaiser’s fifth son, has been engaged to Franlein Bassewitz, formerly the Kaiserin’s lady-in-waiting. She was dismissed when the attachment was discovered, as the Kaiser was bitterly opposed to the marriage. Prince Oscar, on Sunday, secured three days’ leave from the Guards at Potsdam, and went with his fiancee to Mecklenberg, and to-day telegraphed to the Kaiser announcing engagement.
