EMPIRE DAY.
AT AUSTRALIAN FUNCTIONS.
tut ELaomio Tispkokaph—Copyright] [United Pbess Association.! Sydney, May 26.
Speeches were delivered at the dinners of the Empire League and the newly-formed branch of the Colonial Institute, and at other Empire Day functions by the Governor-General, and the Governors, Mr Cook, Admiral Patey, and other leaders, who appreciated, the growing Empire and the Australian national sentiments, and the importance of a local navy cadet system.
Sir Ronald Munro .Ferguson, Go-vernor-General, declared that life was all too short for Empire service. Australia was the Empire’s one child of peace, yet she grasped throughly the sure way to preserve that blessing, and none faced up more readily to the burden which falls upon her in the post of honor as Queen of the Pacific.
Admiral Patey said that whatever happened, tho fact remained that Australia had an efficient fleet. It was quite small, but efficient, and the Australians should be proud of possessing a fleet which was materially useful in defending the great Empire.
